Next steps

4 August 2025

On Monday, 25 August, Council staff will be presenting a report to Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board on the future use of the BP Meats site

At this meeting, we’ll be discussing what we’ve heard from the community to-date and next steps. We’ll be recommending one more round of engagement, to understand community views on the revised shortlisted potential future land use/s for the site as a result of the community meetings in June. This conversation will include a ‘managed retention’ option – having a plan for now while ensuring that the site is able to respond to Akaroa’s future needs.

Next steps

We’ll be in touch in a couple of weeks when the agenda goes live for this Community Board meeting.

All things going to plan, this next round of community consultation will occur over October/November and will focus on identifying your preferred future land use/s of those shortlisted.

The community’s preferences will then inform a decision by Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board on the site's future land use/s and associated implementation, likely in early 2026.

Once that decision’s been made, we’ll start working on implementation. Depending on the decision made this may include sourcing funding, different delivery mechanisms, community management agreements, etc.
