Over the past few years, we’ve been working with the community to make Bromley streets safer and more accessible. People told us they felt unsafe and asked for measures to slow traffic on roads through the suburb so they're safer for everyone, whether travelling by vehicle, by bike, or on foot.

Last year, we started with some traffic calming. We've now got funding to make more improvements and we want your input to shape what we do!

We'll keep this page updated throughout the project so you know how things are progressing and what we want feedback on.

Safety improvements for Bromley's streets

Last year we installed:

  • speed humps on Keighleys and Bromley Roads
  • a pedestrian island outside Bromley Community Centre
  • a cut down outside Bromley School to improve visibility
  • bollards along the cemetery-side of Keighleys Road.

We're keen to understand how local residents are finding these changes. You can find out more here or fill out the survey at the bottom of this page to tell us what you think.

We're planning to upgrade the intersections of Korora Street/Kawau Crescent and Walcot Street/McGregors Road to make it safer to get around.

Similar plans were consulted on and approved in 2023 but were never installed due to central government pulling funding. We're keen to hear from the community about whether anything has changed that should be considered.

We're planning to install a kerb and channel, as well as some low planting, along the west side of Keighleys Road next to the cemetery. There will still be space to park here, but it will be parallel parking only.

We've heard that heavy vehicles are an issue on St Johns Street, even with a heavy vehicle ban in place. To discourage heavy vehicles, we're considering making St Johns Street/Maces Road and Maces Road/Woburn Street left turn in and left turn out only.

We're keen to understand community views of this as a solution or of anything else we should consider to address heavy vehicle use in this area.

We want to hear from the Bromley community about what you want to see happen. Based on your ideas, we'll develop designs and come back to you for feedback before we start construction.
