Thanks to everyone who submitted feedback on this project

We received a total of 48 submissions about Lake Kate Sheppard and Bower Park, from 43 individuals and the following organisations:

  • Disabled Persons Assembly New Zealand
  • Spokes Canterbury
  • Canterbury Baseball Association
  • The Bower
  • Play Preservation Trust


What you told us

Most (38) submitters supported the plan for Bower Park and Lake Kate Sheppard (79%), 17% (8) somewhat supported it, while 4% (2) did not support.


What submitters liked about the plan included:

  • The connection to the natural environment and natural elements
  • Bringing together different sports codes
  • Enhancing the wetland to let nature take its course

What submitters didn't like about the plan included:

  • The inclusion of the trial housing at the end of Willryan Avenue
  • The sports fields feeling inconsistent with their neighbouring wetlands

Some submitters requested a loop track around the Lake Kate Sheppard area.

Meeting details and decision making process

A staff report recommending approval of Bower Park and Lake Kate Sheppard will be presented to the Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board

Venue: Boardroom, Corner of Beresford and Union Streets, New Brighton

This is a public meeting. Everyone is welcome and it will be livestreamed so you can watch online.
