At their meeting on 11 August 2025, the Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board has decided to defer making a decision on where buses on routes 5 and 135 should park between trips in New Brighton. They’ve asked Council staff to investigate long-term options for a permanent bus layover or interchange, including possible sites like Marine Parade, Hawke Street, and others. They also want staff to explore whether the Council could buy or repurpose land for this purpose.

The staff will update the Community Board once further investigation has been completed.
