Road

Role and Function

Who and how it is used

Why speed limit change and not other speed management interventions

Worcester Street between Latimer Square and Fitzgerald Avenue

Local Street, acting as link between the CBD and the Rapanui-Shag Rock Major Cycleway. Due to the existing vehicle movement restrictions at both Latimer Square and Fitzgerald Street the road is not used as a thoroughfare and serves access to the local properties and on street parking.

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Worcester is not a thoroughfare due to the existing traffic calming at each end, vertical deflection is also proposed to provide speed management. It is proposed to reduce the speed also to align with the expected operating speeds.

Hereford Street between 234 Hereford Street and 276 Hereford Street Urban Connector, provides access to and from the central city Motorists, public transport, cyclists and pedestrians It is proposed to reduce the speed to align with the proposed surrounding streets speeds.
Barbadoes

Street between 252 Barbadoes Street and 296 Barbadoes Street

Urban Connector, provides access from the central city. Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians Vertical deflection was investigated but due to the surrounding property levels unable to be constructed It is proposed to reduce the speed to align with the proposed surrounding streets speeds.

Additional notes:

  • The estimated impacts in the cost benefit disclosure statement are based on the assumption of up to 1% growth in daily traffic volumes.
  • The implementation cost reflects the cost of installing speed limit signs around the edge of the speed limit zone.
