Improvements coming for Stapletons Road

We’re planning a street renewal for Stapletons Road, between North Avon Road and Randall Street, due to the poor condition of the road surface, footpaths, and kerb and channel. It’s one of a few remaining streets in the area needing an upgrade, so completing this work will help bring the neighbourhood up to a consistent standard.

What’s included in a renewal:

  • Replacing the current deep-dish gutters with a standard kerb and channel
  • Resurfacing the road and footpath
  • Upgrading the street lights
  • Narrowing the width of the road to maintain consistency with the rest of Stapletons Road

We’ll also consider:

  • Street trees and landscaping
  • Changes to the footpath
  • Signs and road markings
  • Traffic calming and other safety features such as cycle lanes and pedestrian crossings

We don’t have a big enough budget to do everything. Improvements like widening the road, ‘undergrounding’ powerlines and work on private property are not possible.

Orion (who manage powerlines) have advised us that they don't contribute toward the undergrounding of electricity infrastructure for Council projects. Orion do have their own portfolio of projects, which may include some undergrounding works, but this is separate to Council projects. If anyone (i.e. a contractor, homeowner, or residents’ group) would like to enquire about the cost of undergrounding electricity infrastructure that they would be willing to 100% fund, they can contact Orion at: NetworkPortfolioTeam@oriongroup.co.nz

Tell us about things that need fixing

We would like to know if you’ve noticed any issues that need fixing, such as flooding along the street — if you have photos please send them to us.

Next steps

Your feedback will help us shape the plan for the Stapletons Road renewal.

Later this year, when the draft plan is ready, we will share it here before the Waipapa Papanui Innes Central Community Board decides whether to approve the plan.
