We received a total of 149 submissions about the Te Kāhu Park athletics proposal.

What you told us

Submissions were made by five recognised organisations and 144 individuals. All submissions

are available on the Kōrero mai webpage.

  • Overall, 138 (93%) of submitters supported the proposal, 5 (3%) somewhat supported, 3 (2%) did not support, with the remaining 3 (2%) not knowing.
  • All respondents (91) who were parents/caregivers of a member of Awatea Athletics were in support of the proposal. A high proportion of respondents who lived nearby supported (9, 82%), with the remainder somewhat supporting the proposal. A high proportion of respondents who lived nearby were in support (29, 78%).

Submitters who supported the proposal felt:

  • The applicant has a good reputation (35)
  • The proposal would improve the clubs ability to deliver and the experience for young athletes (24)
  • The proposal would benefit the community (21)

Submitters who did not support the proposal felt:

  • The container does not fit with the aesthetic of the park (3)
  • Traffic concerns remained unaddressed including limited parking and congestion at peak times (6)
  • More investigation is needed into long-term storage solutions (2)

A staff report recommending approval of the Te Kāhu Park lease to Awatea Athletics will be presented to the Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board:
