Adapting to sea level rise in Lyttelton Harbour and Port Levy

Adaptation planning is about preparing now for the effects of coastal hazards on our communities, infrastructure and environment so that we are ready for what may happen in the future. Council is working closely with a Coastal Panel of community and Rūnanga representatives to develop adaptation pathways for public assets. Local values and local knowledge are key to finding a way forward for communities. Council will make the final decision about adaptation pathways, based on recommendations from the Coastal Panel.

We'd like your feedback on whether the Coastal Panel is on the right track with these draft pathways before we do any further work on them.

Find more information and provide feedback here.

Summer Fire Hazard

The indications are that we will experience a hot, dry summer which will greatly increase the risk of a vegetation fire. The advice from the Little River Fire Brigade:

  • Please ensure that vegetation is kept under control
  • If you are using chainsaws, weed whackers or mowers have a water supply on hand either a hose or backpack sprayer to extinguish any sparks.
  • Clear any dead and dry leaves or vegetation, especially close to your house
  • Don’t leave BBQs unattended.
