Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board Meeting Highlights

16 October 2023

Message from the Chair | karere a te Heamana

Kia ora!

Bonjour! 2023 Akaroa French Festival was a hit! This biennial event celebrating the unique heritage of Akaroa was such a delight. Incredible food, live music, and a showcase of the arts illustrated the richness that Banks Peninsula offers. Well done to all those involved.

Preparing for emergencies within our communities is vital. Residents of Te Pātaka o Rākaihatū Banks Peninsula know firsthand what it’s like to live through unpredictable weather events, so the Board is encouraged to hear that there have been successful Emergency Response planning meetings attended by people from all over the Peninsula.

What could make our roads safer? Mistakes can occur on all roads, however the Board is particularly aware of the accidents that can occur on the windy and unpaved roads around the Peninsula. Christchurch City Council has opened their Draft Safer Speed Plan, a 10 year plan for Banks Peninsula and Christchurch road speeds, up for feedback. We want everyone to get where they are going safely, regardless of how they are travelling. Having safe speeds is part of our solution to a safer network; be a part of this solution by having your say here.

Ngā mihi nui,
