Voting papers have started to arrive in the mailboxes of electors in the Akaroa community subdivision of Christchurch City Council from Monday 11 May. Voting documents should be delivered to all enrolled electors by 25 May.

Two people are contesting the vacant position representing Akaroa on Te Pataka ō Rakaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board.

The two candidates are:

Official results will be announced when the final count is complete, and special votes have been verified. This is expected to be Monday 15 June.

Deputy Electoral Officer Jo Daly said voters will receive a voting paper in the mail, along with a candidate profile sheet with a profile statement and photo for each candidate, and a return envelope.

“Completed voting documents can be returned by post, or to orange vote bins in the community,” she said.

Orange vote bins are located at:

Posted voting documents can be put in any NZ Post box or DX Mailboxes by 5pm on Monday 8 June to ensure it arrives before the close of voting.

Ms Daly said the elected member will take up office the day after the official result has been declared by public notice.

“However, the board member cannot act until they have sworn the oath of office which is usually at their first Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board meeting.”

Special voting facilities will be available Monday to Friday during ordinary opening hours at Akaroa Customer Service Hub, Little River Library & Customer Service Hub and Te Hononga Civic Offices.
