Ilam Stream Restoration Update – Crosbie Park & Avonhead Park

Over the next couple of weeks, you may notice planting activity along the Ilam Stream in Crosbie Park and Avonhead Park.

Thanks to community funding, Three Waters has engaged contractors to restore approximately 500 metres of riparian margin at Crosbie Park, including planting beside the stream and infill planting in existing areas. They will also complete infill planting within the 350 metres of riparian planting beside Ilam Stream in Avonhead Park that was done last year.

This planting work is important as riparian planting, the vegetation along the stream's edge, helps stabilise banks, prevent erosion, filter stormwater runoff, improve water quality, increase habitat for native plants and animals, and maintain cooler water temperatures for aquatic life.

For enquiries about these plantings, contact Christchurch City Council on 03 941 8999 or 0800 800 169, or email info@ccc.govt.nz

The Friends of Crosbie Park's annual planting session is scheduled for 9:30 am on Thursday, 14 August, to plant a small section of the waterway just down from the playground. If you're interested in volunteering with the Friends of Crosbie Park, please email the Council's Parks team at Parks.Volunteers@ccc.govt.nz .
