Rotary Community Service Awards

The Rotary Club of Bishopdale-Burnside recently held its annual Community Service Awards evening at the Hotel Elms.

Eleven awards were presented by current president Garry Hampton who commented that these award evenings were always a highlight of the club’s Rotary year.

He said “the achievements and calibre of all the recipients is impressive so it’s appropriate they are recognised for the contribution they make to the Christchurch community.”

The Awards presented included the following.

  • Vocational Excellence: Stuart Walker, pharmacist for Unichem Pharmacy
  • Pride of Workmanship: Amanda Hogwood, Hotel Elms Food and Beverage Manager
  • Pride of Workmanship: David Giddens, Waterway Enhancement, City Care Property
  • Community Service: Anna Arps, Trustee for ‘Good Night Sleep Tight’
  • Community Service: Robbie Drew, The Potters Kitchen food bank
  • Small Business: Bradi Martin, Bishopdale Hearing
  • Small Business: Sergiu and Sabina, The Option Bar & Bistro Northwood
  • Young Totara: Samuel Broughton, Burnside High School, environmental work
  • Young Totara: Finnely Heinz, Christchurch Girls High School, Full Bellies Trust
  • Young Totara: Zara Gray, Christchurch Girls High School, Full Bellies Trust

For the first time this year a special ‘High Achievers Award’ was presented to Cooper Moore from St Bede’s College who has been excelling at golf both in New Zealand and oversees and was recently recognised as Canterbury Men’s Golfer of the Year.
