Stats NZ is running a census test this October, and some households in our community may be invited to take part.

This test is part of a move towards a new annual survey model, which will eventually replace the traditional five-yearly census. The aim is to make data collection more flexible, inclusive, and efficient for everyone.

If your household is selected, you’ll receive a letter with clear instructions. You can complete the test online, by phone, or in person.

Keep an eye on your letterbox from 10 October for your selection letter. From 13 October some selected households may also receive a visit from a Stats NZ interviewer offering support and options to take part.

It’s encouraged that all selected households complete the test by 28 October, but Stats NZ will continue visiting households and providing support until the end of November.

Taking part is voluntary, but your input will help shape how New Zealand gathers important information for planning services like schools, hospitals, and public transport.
