Changes to Rec and Sport fees and charges

2 September 2025

Customers of Christchurch City Council’s recreation and sport services will see changes to some fees and charges next month.

Price increases will apply from Wednesday 1 October to help with the rising costs of delivering the Council’s recreation and sport services.

However, with price increases having the biggest impact on those with lower incomes, the Council has also increased the discount for Community Services, SuperGold, Hāpai and secondary student cardholders from 25% to 30%, giving them an overall price reduction across most things.

“Inflation has meant a steady climb in the cost to the Council of providing the recreation services our residents enjoy so much,” says Nigel Cox, Head of Recreation, Sports and Events.

“This is the first significant fee increase in two years – despite inflation, we’ve managed to keep most fees and charges unchanged, or with only a slight increase.

“Our mantra is to get more people more active more often, and the best way to do this is to keep the entry price as low as possible so customers can come more often.”

Fees are not increasing for swim lane and room hire, or for birthday party packages.

Casual products, multi-visit passes, recreation programme fees, Southern Centre fees, Ngā Puna Wai fees, camping ground fees, and memberships (except Swimsmart) are increasing from 1 October 2025.

Court hire, preschool gymnastics and Swimsmart fees are increasing from 5 January 2026.

There’s no change to the 50% discount that Hāpai cardholders enjoy on applicable casual entry products.

When Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre opens, the entry fees and memberships will be the same as the rest of the network.
