The Great Library Seed and Plant Swap

Anyone with spare seeds can bring their sought-after leftovers into their local library to share with their community.

Christchurch City Council Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson says that vegetable, herb, flower, native and heritage seeds are all welcome, along with potted seedlings.

“Our annual swap event has proved to be very popular as more people seek solace in their own backyards – either to grow their own food or create a special space,” Ms Robertson says.

“By saving and then sharing seeds at The Great Library Seed and Plant Swap, communities can connect and support sustainable living.

“Seed diversity nurtures a better backyard and supports a range of low-cost accessible food.

“Our seed swap also offers the chance to try out a new variety of plant, flower or vegetable in your garden. We can all share in the bounty from seeds you may not need.”
