Langdons Road - progress update

19 October 2024

Greers Langdons Traffic Lights project - Greers Road Resurfacing Update

Unfortunately, due to a truck breakdown, one of the traffic lanes did not get resurfaced when planned. The contractor will be returning to site on Sunday morning (20 October 2024) to complete this resurfacing work between 7am-1pm (weather dependent).

To allow for this resurfacing work to take place, the one-way system on Langdons Road will be reinstated for Sunday morning only. During this time, northbound traffic will be detoured onto Morrison Avenue. Once the works are completed around lunchtime, the one-way system will be removed, and two-way traffic resumed. For the rest of the afternoon, the contractor will still be working on the footpaths, but this will have no impact on traffic.

🚦 Traffic light commissioning

Although the new traffic lights are now in place, it takes several different organisations working together to get them switched on. We're planning to start operating the lights before the end of November this year.

Langdons Road railway crossing – progress update

During the closure period, work mostly focused on the railway elements.

This included:

  • New trenching and ducting across the road.
  • New foundations for the new automatic gates.
  • Installation of the gates.
  • Installation of new STRAIL (heavy duty rubber mat track crossings).
  • Installation of new railway signalling equipment and foundations.
  • Fixing a signalling fault that we identified during safety checks.

The next phase of works will include:

  • New kerbing.
  • Shared path and fencing works.
  • Installation of new traffic signalling equipment and foundations.

Why will the Langdons programme take longer than Harewood?

You may have noticed that the programme of works for Langdons Road railway crossing runs much longer than the Harewood Road crossing works.

This is because, a couple of years ago, when part of Restell Street (next to the Harewood crossing) was upgraded, the team decided to install the majority of the new kerbs at the crossing and some of the new railway signals foundations. This prep work saved a lot of time during the recent works.
