We’re excited to let you know that Matariki in the Zone 2026 is GO!

This kaupapa continues to be such a special highlight for our community and for all of us involved, and we know it means a lot to you too.

This year, more than ever, we’re feeling the importance of coming together. With food security becoming an increasing challenge for many in our community, this event is a small but meaningful way we can respond by creating connection, sharing kai, and doing our best to feed as many people as we can through our hāngī. It’s about manaakitanga, caring for one another, and making sure no one is left out.

Here’s what’s coming up this year:

Lighting installations will be up all week leading into Matariki, transforming the space each evening and creating something pretty magical.

There'll be planting sessions and stargazing events throughout the week, building connection, sharing knowledge, and celebrating the season together.

Main event: Saturday, July 11th from 2:30pm

The main event, supported by the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board, will once again be a big moment to gather, celebrate, and bring the whole community together.
