Preparing for life in 2050

12 September 2025

The risks and hazards posed by climate change will be discussed in the next instalment of the Christchurch Conversations series.

Presented by Te Pūtahi Centre for Architecture and City-Making, Ōtautahi in 2050 will be held from 6pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday 23 September in the TSB Space at Tūranga.

This is a free public event, but bookings are required. You can join in person or online.

A panel of expert speakers will explore some of the key impacts of climate change specific to the context of our city - including how it might affect insurance, the built environment, ecological systems and our own wellbeing.

Hear from Rod Carr (former chair of the Climate Change Commission), James Baigent (Insurance Council of New Zealand), Sarah McFarlane (National Public Health Service), Tom Parsons (Surface Water Engineer, Christchurch City Council) and poet Erik Kennedy.

“Our panellists will explore how these different facets of our urban and living systems might change, and give us their takes on what deserves attention and care as we plan for the future,” says Te Pūtahi director Dr Jessica Halliday.

“Taken together, their contributions provide insight into how we might lay some of the groundwork for a sustainable and livable city.”

Christchurch Conversations 2025 is supported by Christchurch City Council through the Sustainability Fund.
