Sawyers Arms Road level crossing work wrapping up

11 April 2025

Work will begin winding down at the Sawyers Arms Road level crossing today, as planned. The stop/go traffic management will be removed, and regular two-way traffic will be reinstated.

We want to commend KiwiRail and the Council's contractor, Fulton Hogan, for continuing to deliver the project on time and to a high standard.

Next week, they will be doing a general tidy up of the site and completing some minor works, with no traffic management required. The scope will include traffic signal works, line marking and landscaping.

When will the new signalised pedestrian/cyclist crossings be commissioned?

As part of the level crossing upgrades at Harewood, Langdons and Sawyers Arms roads, the Council have constructed signalised pedestrian/cyclist crossings to make it safer and easier for people using the Puari ki Pū-Harakeke-nui Northern Line Cycleway. The crossings at Harewood and Landgons road also feature automatic gates.

The new systems – including lights, bells and gates – at each location need to be integrated into the rail system (commissioned) at the same time. It is expected this will be completed in June 2025.
