Welcoming Week

Today’s the start of Welcoming Week 2025! This is a warm invitation to all who call Ōtautahi Christchurch home. This week of events connects newcomers and long-time residents through cultural exchange, shared experiences, and community spirit, building a city where everyone feels they belong.

This weekend, come along to the morning tea at the Art Gallery or the Ōtautahi Welcoming Dinner on Friday, learn about Council services and join us for a community potluck dinner on Saturday, and come along to the Riccarton Market or take part in a planting day on Sunday.

Welcome Wildlife to your Garden

Nau mai kararehe mā ki tō koutou māra - Welcome wildlife to your garden as part of Te Wiki o Te Taiao Conservation Week. Join rangers and locals for some gentle gardening in the Swanns Road Wildlife Garden to celebrate Conservation Week.

We provide tools, please wear sturdy hū footwear and bring your own takawai water bottle. Come along to 52 Swanns Road from 9am – 10.30am Friday to get involved.

Native Tree Planting With Predator Free

Help us weed, mulch and plant natives along the Waimairi Beach coastal walkway. Bring along a spade, wheel barrow, weed eater or just yourself and get involved in this Conservation Week event.

Meet at 9am at the sand dunes near Eastwood Reserve, 84 Aston Drive.

Yarnarchy 25

Yarnarchy 2025 is live! Spot the yarn bombs throughout the central city and enjoy Ōtautahi’s creativity as Christchurch comes alive with crocheted and knitted artwork created by local crafts people.

This year Gap Filler has collaborated with Jolt Dance to create two unique performances with Yarnarchy costumes at the LiVS Incubator. Head along to check out the performances between 11.30am – 5pm Saturday.

Monthly Fungi Whānau at Fungi Farm

Head down to the Fungi Farm's natural playground for the Monthly Fungi Whānau at Fungi Farm event, and help to cultivate a community passionate about fungi and their amazing roles in our ecosystem.

This month, join Hayley and Inga for an incredible experience where you'll learn about inoculating fungi, preparing soil for the best fungi growth, experiments with coffee grinds, books, and cardboard, and more fungi-themed activities. Come along from 10.30am – 1pm Sunday.
