What's on in Christchurch this weekend

15 May 2026

Fun

Chill out to some jazz music, connect with other mums at Parakiore or refine your motorbike riding skills. There's plenty to do in Christchurch this weekend.

The village moves, a mum's gathering

Motherhood can be beautiful, and it can also feel a little lonely sometimes.

This is your invitation to step out of the busy and into a space where you can move, breathe, and reconnect with yourself and other mums.

We’ll begin with gentle, accessible movement and dance, no experience needed, then transition into grounding, restorative yoga to help you slow down and land.

Come exactly as you are. Tired, energised, or somewhere in between.

Sunday 10am to 11.30am, Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre, 50 St Asaph Street.

Take the Library Stage

Take the Library Stage and showcase your musical talent in celebration of New Zealand Music Month. Musicians of all ages, talents, and experience levels are welcome. Perform solo or bring your group.

This event will run like an open mic session. This is aimed to be a supportive, fun and low-pressure opportunity for people to showcase their skills and entertain an audience.

Saturday 1:30pm to 3:30pm, Fendalton Library.

Motorcycle Slow Speed Riding

Fundraising for the TranzAlpine Scooter Safari, motorcycle instructors Clive Chapman and Pete Daly are offering tuition to help riders improve their slow-speed skills.

They're offering three sessions; each will start with a 'how the heck do I do this' tutorial followed by a short on bike commentated demonstration. You’ll then have plenty of time to get out in the huge car park to practice these skills on your own bikes, all the while being helped along the way by Clive and Pete.

These are free sessions, but it is a fundraiser for the Cancer Society so we will be passing the bucket around at the start of each session - your generosity would be appreciated.

Sunday 10am to 2.30pm, Canterbury Agricultural Park, Curletts Road Wigram.

Great Hall Lunchtime Concert Series Darren Pickering Quartet

Discover a collection of musical gems - bite-size lunchtime concerts in the magnificent Great Hall, featuring renowned local, national and international musicians from classical, jazz, and popular traditions.

Come and experience the Small Worlds jazz project live with Heather Webb (guitar), Pete Fleming (bass), and Jono Blackie (drums).

Another volume of melody-driven jazz has been issued by this musical collaboration with talented pianist/composer Darren Pickering.

Tickets range from $5 to $20.

11 May to 17 May, 1.10pm to 1.50pm, The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora.

Women and Girls Pool Night

There are a variety of barriers that many women and girls face, which prevent them from using a pool facility. That's why Selwyn Aquatic Centre is hosting an evening designed to encourage and include them to feel confident and safe using the pool facility.

Entry is restricted to women and girls only from 4.30pm and all public not staying for the session need to exit the pool space at 5pm.

Boys up to the age of 5 years old can attend with a parent or caregiver.

Saturday 5:30pm to 8pm, Selwyn Aquatic Centre.
