Get ready for a weekend of arts and creativity - check out what's on in and around Christchurch.

2025 Arts Canterbury Art Show

The Arts Canterbury annual Art Show is on this weekend, fundraising to provide support for local artists. More than 80 Art Canterbury artists will exhibit at the show, displaying traditional paintings and drawings, as well as sculptures, artworks created from glass, metal sculptures, jewellery and more.

Head to the Cashmere Club on Saturday or Sunday from 9am – 4pm to view the exhibition for a koha donation, and come along to the opening from 7 – 10pm Friday for a $25 fee.

Go Green Expo

New Zealand’s largest sustainable lifestyle show is back at Wolfbrook Arena this weekend. The Go Green Expo showcases eco home/building products, food and beverages, advisory services, supplements, organic products, health and wellness, beauty and personal care, household products, pet products, gardening, grocery and many more categories.

Explore the diverse range of companies and brands from 10am – 4pm Saturday or Sunday at Wolfbrook.

Sew a storage bag

Create your own stylish and eco-friendly storage bag in a hands-on sewing workshop at Tūranga. Guided by experienced instructors, you’ll fain basic sewing skills in a supportive, relaxed environment. Learn how to turn everyday materials into unique, colourful bags – perfect for gifts or personal use.

This session will be on from 10.30am – 12.30pm and 2.30 – 4pm Sunday, bookings are required. Please note this session costs $11.14.

New Zealand International Film Festival

Whānau Mārama, The New Zealand International Film Festival, returns to Ōtautahi, starting this weekend. Films will be on at Lumière Cinema in The Arts Centre for the next two weeks.

This weekend, see Mirrors No. 3, Maya, Give Me a Title, Went Up the Hill, Chain Reactions, Dreams (Sex Love), Familiar Touch, Predators, Reedland, or Deaf. Book online here.

Toiora Exhibition

An exhibition exploring the interconnection of Māori weaving and wellbeing is on at Tūranga until 31 August. The Toiora Exhibition features work from the Ōtautahi Weavers Collective and Ōtautahi based Kāi Tahu senior weavers and copper wire speciality weaver.
