Plans approved
Consultation on Norwood and Fisher intersection has now closed. People were able to provide feedback from 3 to 20 October 2024. During this time, we heard from 40 individuals and groups. You can read their feedback by clicking the link in the box above.
To find out how this influenced the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board decision to approve the plans you can read the minutes or watch the decision being made - also included in the link above.
Work on this project will start in early 2025.
Temporary safety improvements were installed at the Norwood Street and Fisher Avenue intersection in 2021. We’re now looking at making these permanent.
The plan
- The flexible bollards and planter boxes are looking a bit tired, and we have an opportunity to replace them using permanent concrete buildouts and planting.
- Within the kerb buildout, we’re planning low shrubs to beautify the area while maintaining visibility for all users of the intersection.
- We’ll narrow the crossing distance to make it safer to cross and extend the kerb buildouts to make pedestrians more visible on Norwood Street.
There’ll also be minor stormwater improvements to help with water pooling on Fisher Avenue.
There will be no changes to parking or footpath widths.
What's there now?
In 2021, we installed two new crossing points on Norwood Street, on either side of Fisher Avenue through New Zealand Transport Agency’s Innovating Streets for People programme (and funding stream). We also put no stopping lines around the intersection. We narrowed the intersection with planter boxes and flexible delineators as per Innovating Streets for People’s mantra of making streets safer using temporary measures.
