What you told us

Comments in support of the proposal during the consultation were summarised as:

  • The riding school is considered a great asset to the community, with some noting how they give back to the local community by participating in and supporting local events and initiatives.
  • The riding school, and the activities carried out by it, are good for participants (riders) health and wellbeing, provide joy to participants and helps to foster friendships between riders.
  • The riding school teaches good life skills to both children and adults.

Comments that raised concerns were about:

  • Horse manure not being cleaned up off nearby roads and reserves.
  • Horses grazing outside the lease area impacting on native plant restoration and users of Captain Thomas Pathway
  • Horse riding and training in the red zone area at the end of Finnsarby Place (unofficially known as Finnsarby park) over the winter causing damage and unevenness in Park/red zone area.
  • Request to include requirements to manage sediment moving from the paddocks to protect nearby waterways.

Based on the feedback staff will recommend the lease be approved by the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board with some special lease terms to address concerns raised.
