Updates
The Council is seeking feedback on Beach Hospitality Limited's proposal for building works and a lease extension for their premises which they lease from Council at 25 Esplanade, Sumner, known as 'The Beach'.
Proposed building work
The Beach's current kitchen is small and limits their operating capacity. To address this, the Beach are proposing to move the ice cream shop slightly outwards (towards the east) onto the existing paved decks. A new storage unit will be constructed beside the ice cream shop and will replace the existing storage and bin area. New outdoor shading will be placed at the north side of the Beach. The new building elements will not exceed their lease boundary and all building costs will be covered by Beach Hospitality Limited, not the Council.
Lease extension
The Beach is located on the Sumner beach front which is a recreation reserve. They will have maxed out their 33-year allowance on a reserve at the end of their current lease in 2033. Given the significant investment in the building work, the Beach is requesting a lease extension of eight years (until 2041) to ensure its continued commercial viability.
