Outdoor Recreation Asset Mapping – Waitaha Canterbury

We’re excited to share an upcoming initiative aimed at strengthening active recreation across Waitaha Canterbury. The Outdoor Recreation Asset Mapping project — delivered in partnership by Sport Canterbury and the Christchurch City Council Active Communities Team — will help build a clearer understanding of the region’s current outdoor recreation spaces, places, programmes, and opportunities.

This mahi will enable us to identify gaps, celebrate strengths, and support future planning so our sector can better enable participation for rangatahi, their whānau, and wider communities. Over the coming months, we’ll be working closely with partners, gathering local insights, and developing a comprehensive regional picture to guide smarter investment, collaboration, and decision‑making.

It is intended for any organisation that delivers, supports, hosts, or enables outdoor recreation opportunities in Ōtautahi Christchurch. The survey should ideally be completed by someone with a broad overview of your organisation’s outdoor recreation programmes — such as a manager, coordinator, team lead, or senior practitioner. It takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete. The survey closes on the 17 April.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone contributing their time, expertise, and local knowledge.
