New law alert for incorporated societies: Community Law Canterbury are running a legal workshop on the morning of Friday 10 November for local community groups. This workshop will be of interest to your group if you are an incorporated society. This is because a new law has been passed that applies to all incorporated societies. All incorporated societies will have to update their constitutions, apply to re-register their group on a new online register of incorporated societies and start checking that their Committee members aren’t disqualified. Groups who don’t will cease to exist in 2026 – which will affect their ability to own property, to apply for funding and to continue to operate. The workshop will explain more about what your group will need to. If you would like to find out more about the workshop, please email: communityeducation@canlaw.org.nz
