During this time, we heard from 4 organisations and 35 individuals. You can read their feedback and find out how this influenced the You will be able to read their feedback and the staff recommendation once an agenda is available for the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board's decision to approve the basketball construction by clicking on the link in the box above.
Special shout out to the awesome community minded and caring rangatahi who have worked hard to get this project going. Mauri ora!
Following a request from Mānuka Cottage community centre rangatahi, we are planning to construct a half basketball court at Cornelius O'Connor Reserve (66-70 Harman Street, Addington). The request is supported by a range of community organisations, including Mānuka Cottage which is located on the reserve.
Currently, the nearest basketball courts are a significant walk away and getting to them involves crossing busy roads like Moorhouse Avenue or Brougham Street. The proposed location for the half court is in the heart of the community and is safe to walk to.
The half court will be a great place for people to exercise, have fun and connect with each other. With help from rangatahi, we plan to develop and install signs around the half court to remind people using it that they are near a residential area and to be considerate.
A sound engineer has confirmed that the court's planned location meets noise regulations.
