Thanks to everyone who submitted feedback on this project

We received a total of 367 submissions from 360 individuals and the following organisations:

  • NZ Spinal Trust
  • Living Streets Aotearoa
  • Spokes Canterbury
  • Waitākiri Primary School
  • Burwood Road Motors
  • Burwood Food Market
  • Mairehau Riding School

What you told us

Overall, the majority of submitters preferred the signalised intersection (221, 60%) over the roundabout upgrade (89, 24%). A further 49 submitters (13%) did not prefer either option and 8 submitters (3%) were unsure.

Four organisations / businesses were in support of the signalised intersection (NZ Spinal Trust, Living Streets Aotearoa, Waitākiri Primary School and Burwood Road Motors). Two were in support of the roundabout upgrade (Spokes Canterbury and Burwood Food Market).

Submitters were split in their preference for a pedestrian island and speed humps on Burwood Road. Installation of speed humps was the main reason for the opposition. Submitters also said the crossing would assist vulnerable users, including children, to cross and slow vehicles by using speed humps.

Common topics raised during early conversations and consultation were:

  • The signalised intersection would be safer for all users, assists with traffic flow and future proofs the intersection.
  • The roundabout upgrade would maintain traffic flow, be safer for all users and slow vehicles down.

You can read more about what we heard in the meeting agenda below, which includes the staff report. To read all the feedback we received, look at the submission table below.
