The Waitai Coastal Burwood Linwood Community Board decided to proceed with the signalised intersection option, on 8 December 2025.

The Community Board also decided to reject the proposed pedestrian island and speed humps outside Burwood Hospital.

What happens next?

Christchurch City Council currently has delegation to install cycle lanes. A report recommending the approval of cycle lanes on the intersection approaches will be taken to the Council at the start of 2026.

Once the Council has made a decision on the cycle lanes, the project will progress on to detailed design and construction.
