The current play equipment has come to the end of its useful life and is being replaced with modern play equipment. This is mostly a ‘like-for-like’ renewal, so we plan to select the modern equivalent of the existing equipment. Currently, the play space offers a slide, two seesaws and a swing set with 3 strap seats and a toddler swing.

What we’re planning

  • Renewing the play space with modern versions of the equipment or alternatives that offer a similar play value. We are suggesting that we group the play equipment together, taking advantage of the shade from existing trees and potentially adding nature play around it.
  • Installing a footpath that connects the street to the playground and installing an accessible picnic table.

Alternatively, we’re looking at substituting the four pieces of play equipment with a simple tree fort built around/close to, the existing cypress tree (large tree bordering Midhurst Road), which could include a slide and climbing elements.

Before this work starts, is there anything we need to know?

We’re keen to understand how you use the reserve and what kind of play equipment interest you and your tamariki (children) the most. These types of play could be:

  • Swinging
  • Sliding
  • Climbing
  • Rocking
  • Spinning elements
