Open for feedback

We know Linwood Park is well used by sports clubs, skaters, children playing on the playground, dog walkers, cyclists and more. We also know some of the park’s facilities need upgrading and that safety can be a concern.

We've got a plan for making Linwood Park better for all users and we want to know what you think!

Linwood Keas

Lease application

Linwood Park is home to the largest league club in Ōtautahi Christchurch, the Linwood Rugby League Football Club (Linwood Keas). The Keas want to build clubrooms next to the new changing rooms in the park. They also want to install additional sports field lighting to meet the needs of their growing club.

To be able to do this, they've applied for a lease. Your local community board will decide whether to grant the lease and your feedback will help with their decision! Click on the tabs above to find out more about the Linwood Keas' lease application and scroll to the bottom of this page to tell us what you think.

Clubrooms

Linwood Keas have been without clubrooms since 2014. They're now looking to build facilities to be used for seasonal sporting use, club and community engagement, and community and family connection.

Key details include:

  • All costs associated with the clubrooms will be covered by the Keas.
  • The design for the clubrooms isn't final yet, but the footprint will be no more than 600m² (see below for images of what the clubrooms could look like).
  • To accommodate the clubrooms, the skate park would need to be moved.
  • Depending on the design, some trees may need to be removed.
  • The Keas aren't applying for an ongoing alcohol licence. They may occasionally apply for a special licence for one-off events.
  • The proposed hours of use for the clubrooms are:
    • Monday to Friday 10am-9pm
    • Saturday 8am-9pm
    • Sunday 8am-7pm.

Sports lighting

Linwood Park has three sports fields. One of the fields already has sports lighting (Field 2, closest to the new changing rooms). Linwood Keas would like to install sports lighting on Field 1 and Field 3.

Key details include:

  • All costs associated with the lights will be covered by the Keas.
  • On Field 1 (closest to Linwood Avenue), there would be four lights, one in each corner of the field.
  • On Field 3 (closest to Aldwins Road), there would be three lights along the southern edge of the field.
  • Each light would be 25m tall and would comply with District Plan rules around lux levels and glare.
  • The proposed hours of use for the lights are:
    • Monday to Friday 5-9pm from April to September.

Concept plan for Linwood Park

To make space for the Linwood Keas' clubrooms, the skate park would need to move. As well as moving things around, we're planning to add some new features to Linwood Park and upgrade what's already there.
