Improvements coming for Percival Street
We’re planning a street renewal for Percival Street and want to know if anything else needs improvement while we’re here.
What’s included in the renewal:
- Replacing the current deep-dish gutters with a standard kerb and channel
- Resurfacing the road and footpath
- Upgrading the street lights
We’ll also consider:
- Street trees and landscaping
- Traffic calming and other safety features such as pedestrian crossings
- Signs and road markings
- Changes to the footpath
We don’t have enough budget to do everything. Improvements like widening the road, ‘undergrounding’ powerlines and private property work are not possible.
Orion (who manage powerlines) have advised us that they don't contribute toward the undergrounding of electricity infrastructure for Council projects. Orion do have their own portfolio of projects, which may include some undergrounding works, but this is separate to Council projects. If anyone (i.e. a contractor, homeowner, or residents’ group) would like to enquire about the cost of undergrounding electricity infrastructure that they would be willing to 100% fund, they can contact Orion at: NetworkPortfolioTeam@oriongroup.co.nz
Now’s the time to let us know about your suggestions and concerns
We’d like to know if you’ve noticed any issues that need fixing, such as flooding along the street — if you have photos please send them to us. We also want to know if there’s any ways to improve the street to make it safer and easier to travel.
Next steps
Your feedback will help us shape the plan for the Percival Street renewal.
Later this year, when the draft plan is ready, we will share it here before the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board decides whether to approve the plan.
