What we're planning

  • Safe speed platform with dual pedestrian and cyclist crossing north of the road bend with good visibility in both directions, to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Flashing pedestrian crossing lights on either side of the crossing to increase its visibility.
  • Speed cushions, road signs and markings on both Gayhurst Road approaches to the crossing to provide an advanced warning for drivers and reduce speeds.
  • No stopping yellow lines to improve crossing visibility. This results in the removal of roadside parking along the Ōtakaro Avon River Corridor – approximately seven on both the west and east side of Gayhurst Road, with more roadside parking available nearby.
  • Cycle ramps to enable north and west travelling cyclists to safely move on and off Gayhurst Road at the crossing.
