Consultation open

Sumner Tennis and Squash Club wants to increase the number of tennis courts in Sumner and obtain a lease to construct two new courts on the red zone land at properties 8-14 Heberden Avenue and 140 Nayland Street. This activity has been assessed as a suitable use for the site by an engineering geologist.

The Club took their proposal to the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board in May 2023 and the Board approved the lease of the red zoned land conditional on community consultation. You can watch the meeting here.

The final plans are now ready for community consultation and we want to hear what you think about the proposal.

If there are any objections that cannot be resolved by the project team, the Community Board will consider these before making a final decision. Otherwise, the lease will be granted.

What's being proposed

The Club is proposing to fund the construction and maintenance of two community tennis courts on the red zoned land between Wiggins Street and Nayland Street.

The details:

  • The courts will be available through daylight hours and no lights are proposed as part of the plan
  • The courts will be fully fenced and locked when not in use with a pin code lock
  • Club members will be able to access the courts using their unique member code
  • The general public will be able to access the courts by usual a single use code once they have made a booking though the online portal.
  • The Club will be able to book the courts for events and competitions
