Torrens Reserve play space has had a good run but it’s time for an upgrade 🛝🪁

This is a mostly 'like-for-like' renewal meaning the new equipment will be replaced with the same or similar available equipment. Feedback was gathered from Spreydon School to determine the type of play equipment for the reserve. We used this to help develop the draft concept plan.

They told us the play equipment they’d really like would be:

  • A tree fort
  • An obstacle course
  • Water play
  • A rail slide
  • A spiral slide
  • Monkey bars
  • Rope climbing
  • A basket swing

We don’t have the space to include everything, but we’ve used their feedback to develop a plan for the new play space.

🔎 Check out the map below to find out what's included in each option. To tell us what you think, you can rate items in the image or scroll to the bottom of the page and fill in a feedback form.

This renewal includes:

  • A play structure (with a double slide and rail slide, climbing features including monkey bars, a tunnel and a playhouse for tamariki),
  • A two-bay swing including a basket swing,
  • Nature play around the border of the play space.

After evaluation by our arborists, the eucalyptus tree in the middle of the reserve will be removed due to safety concerns and high risk of falling branches in strong winds. The stump will be repurposed and turned into a piece of nature play.

We’re moving the play space from the back of the reserve to a space close to the road, this will improve the visibility of the play space from the street. In its place we'll plant six trees, the trees will be a mixture of fruit trees and climbing trees.
