He aha ōu whakaaro?
The masterplan for Wainoni Park was developed back in 2005, and it's time for a refresh.
We have revised the plan and want to know whether you think we've got it right.
The revised plan includes three main projects, including:
- installation of a fitness equipment circuit, in response to requests from the community
- tree planting and landscaping, as part of the Urban Forest Plan
- amenity improvements (including improving access and pathway connections, park furniture).
You can read more about the plans below, or view the previous plan from 2005 on the right hand panel.
A renewal of the playground space is due to take place within the next five years, and will be a separate project. We will be in touch again when that is happening.

Fitness station one
We've planned three fitness stations in response to requests from the community, and a group of local community organisations have helped design it, with representation from Aranui Community Trust Inc, Aranui Library, A-Town Boxing, Eastern Eagles Rugby League Club, St James Primary School, Haeata Campus and Sport Canterbury.
Fitness stations help provide a new opportunity to use the park, and can be used by themselves or as a circuit.

Tree planting
We need to increase the city's tree canopy through tree planting, to combat the effects of climate change. Wainoni Park currently has a canopy cover of 6%. The new plan proposed 133 new trees, increasing the canopy cover to 31%. You can read more about the Urban Forest Plan and tree planting plans here.
We want to ensure the park still feels safe, so have thought carefully about sightlines throughout the park. You can view more images of what this will look like in 30 years, below.
