Play It Forward and help local students shine

2 March 2026

This March, The Hub Hornby is teaming up with Hornby High School to help young people unlock their creative potential through music. Play it Forward is a month‑long musical instrument drive, encouraging locals to donate any unwanted or unused instruments to benefit the Hornby High School music department. Hornby High has a proud history of producing outstanding Kiwi musicians - including the Runga whānau and Anika Moa - and are hoping this campaign will help inspire the next generation of talent.

Many people have an instrument tucked away at home, and this is a simple but meaningful way to make a real difference for local rangatahi.

What you can donate:

  • Guitars (acoustic and electric)
  • Keyboards (please note: no pianos)
  • Trumpets
  • Amplifiers
  • Other musical instruments are welcome!

Before reaching the school, instruments will be checked, tuned and serviced by the team at Rockshop Hornby, including restringing and electrical safety testing when required.

How to donate: Instruments can be dropped off anytime during March at The Hub Hornby Customer Services Desk.

During the campaign, donated instruments will be displayed in the space next to My Shoe Specialists, before making their way to students at Hornby High School at the end of the event.
