About the Community Board

The Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board hold regular meetings that you’re welcome to attend. Anyone can ask to speak to the board about a local issue, activity or project.

The Community Board's main roles are to:

  • Represent and act as an advocate for the interests of our community.
  • Consider and report on all matters referred to us by the council, or any matter of interest to the board.
  • Maintain an overview of services provided by the council within the community.
  • Communicate with community organisations and special interest groups within the community.

A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you!

Upper Riccarton Memorial Park Opening

372 Riccarton Road

A new memorial park at the site of the Upper Riccarton War Memorial Library offers the local community a place of reflection and refuge. The War Memorial Library at 372 Riccarton Road was built in 1919 to commemorate residents who served in World War I. The new space has two park benches and a picnic table, a path and other paved areas, trees, shrubs and a frame for climbing plants.

An official public opening for the Upper Riccarton Memorial Park will be held at 11am on Saturday 16 August. Learn more.

Great Halswell Scouts Book Fair 2025

Saturday 16 August, 9am to 4pm, Sunday 17 August 9am to 3pm, Halswell Scout Den, Halswell Domain

Come along for Halswell Scouts inaugural Book Fair and Sausage Sizzle! On offer is a diverse selection of books for both adults and children, fiction and non-fiction, along with a selection of games, and puzzles. Books priced from $2 per book or 6 for $10. Keep updated on Facebook.

Daffies Clothing Drive for the Cancer Society

A closet clearout for a cause!

Daffies Preloved Clothing is holding its first Clothing Drive. Register for a clothing pick up by emailing admin@daffies.org.nz, Package your quality items into a bag or box (15kg max), clearly label the bag or box with "Daffies" and leave it at your front door for collection! Daffies is owned and operated by Cancer Society - Southern and 100 percent of the proceeds raised go directly to them. Learn more.

​National Poetry Day Competition

In celebration of National Poetry Day, Christchurch City Libraries is running a 2-week poetry competition, and the winners will have their poem printed on a tote bag! It is open to all ages, and we encourage you to explore your creativity and self-expression. One poem per entrant and there is a 16-line limit. Enter online or fill out the entry form and drop it into your local library. Learn more
