Immerse yourself in Japanese culture during Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre's weeklong celebrations from 22 to 29 March. Across the week we will be offering a range of events, activities and performances in celebration of all things Japanese. Events include:

Japanese Cultural Celebration Afterschool Activity Zone Tuesday 25 March,3.30pm to 4.30pm. This week in our usual Afterschool Activity Zone slot we will be celebrating Japanese Cultural by trying out origami. For ages 5+

Bilingual Japanese Storytimes Thursday 27 March, 11am to 11.30am. Come and join our special bilingual Japanese Kamishibai Storytimes. Kamishibai literally means paper theatre in Japanese, and it is a form of storytelling with story cards and wooden frame theatre.

Japanese Cultural Celebration and Performances Saturday 29 March, 1pm to 3pm. Join us for an afternoon of Japanese performances, activities and a Simi-e calligraphy workshop.

Upper Riccarton Library, 71 Main South Road

Craft Snippets is a way to learn about artisan crafts from enthusiasts and experts who love to share. This month hear from Gus Milne, a New Zealand born scrimshander. Gus became involved in ship modelling while living in the USA in the late 70’s winning several awards in multi-state competitions. Learn more.

It’s paw-ty time for the canine community! To celebrate the end of the summer pool season! This is an open session time for dogs of all sizes. Entry fee – a gold coin donation per dog. Only one dog per owner please. Rain or shine, the event will go ahead. Have a paws-ome time!

Halswell Domain, Halswell Road

Come along to help raise money for a new multi-use basketball court on Halswell Domain! Prizes, raffles, sausage sizzle, music, entertainment & have a go opportunities for all ages. Includes a 3 v 3 Basketball Competition - $40 per team. There will also be a silent auction for a Tall Blacks signed singlet.
