About the Community Board
The Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board hold regular meetings that you’re welcome to attend. Anyone can ask to speak to the board about a local issue, activity or project.
The Community Board's main roles are to:
- Represent and act as an advocate for the interests of our community.
- Consider and report on all matters referred to us by the council, or any matter of interest to the board.
- Maintain an overview of services provided by the council within the community.
- Communicate with community organisations and special interest groups within the community.

Christchurch Heritage Festival 2024
Discover and explore the heritage of our communities with over two weeks of walks, talks, open days, exhibitions and more. The Festival is on now until 28 October. Learn more. Local events include:
Riccarton House Heritage Tours On now until 27 October, 16 Kahu Road. Cost $10. Christchurch's pioneering history, at a special price for the Heritage Festival.
Anyone for Croquet? Saturday 19 October, 11am to 12.30pm, Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House, 83 Clyde Road. Cost: $35. Discover the charm of croquet on the lawns of Kate Sheppard House, followed by tea and cucumber sandwiches with your fellow players.
Christchurch Photo Hunt 2024 Hornby Friday 25 October, 1pm to 3pm, Matatiki Hornby Centre, 25 Smarts Road. Christchurch City Libraries runs the Photo Hunt to gather photographs from across the community, along with the unique stories of their creators.

New Zealand ShakeOut 2024
New Zealand ShakeOut is our national earthquake drill and tsunami hikoi and is happening Thursday 24 October at 9.30am!
ShakeOut takes place across the world to remind people of the right action to take during an earthquake. You can start the drill in whatever way works for you. All you need to do is Drop, Cover and Hold for 60 seconds and practice your evacuation if you are in a tsunami evacuation zone. Learn more.

Every Saturday, 8am, Halswell Quarry, Kennedys Bush Road.
A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you! Halswell Quarry parkrun takes place every Saturday.

Annual Labour Weekend plant sale
Venue: St Teresa’s Hall, 8 Puriri Street
Two keen plant ladies started a parish plant sale over 10 years ago. From small beginnings, it has become a Labour Weekend tradition and a key event on the community gardening calendar. Great plants at good prices. Learn more.
