About the Community Board

The Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board hold regular meetings that you’re welcome to attend. Anyone can ask to speak to the board about a local issue, activity or project.

The Community Board's main roles are to:

  • Represent and act as an advocate for the interests of our community.
  • Consider and report on all matters referred to us by the council, or any matter of interest to the board.
  • Maintain an overview of services provided by the council within the community.
  • Communicate with community organisations and special interest groups within the community.

Clean up Week is here

Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up Week is a great opportunity to get your friends, family, school, business or local community group together to participate in New Zealand’s largest clean up event and to make a positive and tangible impact in your local community. There’s still time to get involved. Register now at www.knzb.org.nz You can also keep updated on the Keep Christchurch Beautiful Facebook page.

Local event: There will be a Hornby Clean Up event this Saturday 20 September from 10am to 11.30am at Kyle Park, Waterloo Road. Bring a friend and gloves (if you have them).

A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you!

School Holiday fun @ Te Hāpua Halswell Centre

  • Drop-in Craft Activities - Story of a Sunflower, Saturday 20 to Sunday 28 September & Test Your Memory Craft, Monday 29 September to Sunday 5 October.
  • Discover Your Voice! Podcasting Drop-In Friday 26 September, 10am to 1pm. If you are short of things to do these holidays, write a script about something you are interested in, then come and record yourself on our Rodecaster podcasting desk, and enter the Top of The Pods podcasting competition!
  • The Wonder of Worms Wednesday 24 September, 11am to 12pm and 1pm to 2pm. Come explore how worms turn food scraps into nutrient-rich compost also known as worm casts! Learn the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling, and get stuck into building your very own worm farm! Ages 5-14, free, registration required.
  • Create Together: Whānau Drop-in Wednesday 1 October, 3.30pm to 5pm, This monthly drop-in session is an opportunity for families to learn together and explore our creative STEAM equipment. For October we are creating Drink Bottle Stickers!
  • DIY Cord Keeper Thursday 2 October, 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Come along to Thursday Takeover in the Creative Space for this free activity aimed at teens.
