About the Community Board

The Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board hold regular meetings that you’re welcome to attend. Anyone can ask to speak to the board about a local issue, activity or project.

The Community Board's main roles are to:

  • Represent and act as an advocate for the interests of our community.
  • Consider and report on all matters referred to us by the council, or any matter of interest to the board.
  • Maintain an overview of services provided by the council within the community.
  • Communicate with community organisations and special interest groups within the community.

Aotearoa Bike Challenge

This February, individuals and organisations across New Zealand will compete in Aotearoa Bike Challenge to see who can get the most people riding a bike. It doesn’t matter if you ride every day or haven’t been on a bike in years, you can ride anywhere anytime in February to take part. There are prizes to win for riding and encouraging your friends and colleagues to ride too!

Canterbury Women's Club – Strawberry Tea 2025

Since its establishment in 1913, the Canterbury Women's Club has traditionally marked the beginning of each year with the Strawberry Tea event. The CWC cordially invites you, along with your friends and family, to an evening of talks and discussions on Bringing Climate Change to the Kitchen Table, with guest speakers: the Honourable Dr. Megan Woods and former Christchurch Mayor Vicki Buck. Culture Galore 2025

Ray Blank Park, 46 Maidstone Road

Culture Galore is a multicultural festival that celebrates our city's diversity with food, arts and crafts, and music and dance performances from more than 30 cultures that call Christchurch home.

There is also a huge range of have-a-go activities, such as flax weaving, face painting, soft archery, bouncy castles, police speed radar, netball, cricket and football.

You can also sample some of the appetising ethnic cuisines from one of the 40+ food stalls.
