16 September 2025

Christchurch residents with a passion for fair process and community wellbeing are being invited to put their names forward for influential roles on the city’s District Licensing Committee (DLC).

The Christchurch City Council is currently seeking two Chairs and one Member to join the DLC – the body responsible for determining alcohol licences and managers’ certificates across the city. From new applications to renewals, the committee’s decisions directly shape how alcohol is supplied and managed in our communities.

Applicants should have:

  • A sound understanding of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012
  • Experience in licensing, hearings, or regulatory processes
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • An understanding of alcohol-related harm in the community

Chairs should also be confident leading hearings and preparing high-quality written decisions.

Members are engaged on an as-required basis, making the roles ideal for professionals with flexible schedules who want to contribute their expertise to an important civic function. Remuneration rates are set by the Minister of Justice.

Applications close soon, and successful candidates will undergo a police vetting check before appointment.
