What matters most over the next 10 years

30 October 2023

We’re putting together our next 10-year budget. To help us get it right, we’ve been talking with the community about what matters most – and the results are in!

Across Christchurch City and Banks Peninsula, you've told us your top five priorities are:

  • Climate change
  • Drinking water
  • Roads and footpaths
  • Travel choice
  • Parks and gardens

Your feedback has shown us that while every single issue is someone’s top priority, there are some issues that are more important to more people. There are tough choices ahead – we can’t do everything and keep rates increases down at the same time. We need to make trade-offs, and our challenge for this Long Term Plan will be finding the balance.

You’ll get the chance to tell us whether we have the balance right during public consultation on our draft Long Term Plan 2024–2034, in March next year. The draft plan will set out the Council’s activities, services and budget over the next decade.
