The Council decided to approve the final plans in July 2022, based on the recommendation of the Hearings Panel, which heard submissions earlier that year.

In December 2024, we confirmed that the project is unlikely to receive a government funding contribution. As a result, the next steps will be discussed as part of the 2025–2026 Annual Plan process.

What happens next?

As part of the Draft Annual Plan, Council suggested a staged construction approach for the Wheels to Wings Major Cycle Route (MCR). This will be decided on when they adopt the Annual Plan 2025/26 in June 2025.
