Consultation has now closed

Consultation on Wigram and Hayton Road Intersection has now closed. People were able to provide feedback from 17 August to 27 August 2023.

During this time, we heard from 54 individuals and groups. You can read their feedback and find out how this influenced the Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board and Council decision.

What we are planning

We'll soon be opening a new access to Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub, for small vehicles, via the Southern Motorway underpass. To

prepare for increased vehicles in the area we're planning to install traffic lights at the Wigram Road and Hayton Road intersection and make it easier and safer for walkers and cyclists to get around.

What is being upgraded?

  • Intersection upgrade

    The existing intersection will be upgraded to accommodate the new vehicle entry to Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub, with new traffic lights and a safe speed platform. We'll also add lane markings for vehicles and cyclists.

  • Shared path connection

    The shared path that connects The Runway, Contrail Street and Skyhawk Road will be extended along Wigram Road to the new intersection. This will provide safer access for walkers and cyclists to Hayton Road and Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub.

  • Underpass upgrade

    The Southern Motorway underpass will be upgraded and sealed to provide a new vehicle entry point into the Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub. This will have restricted access for small vehicles only - walkers and cyclists will be able to use this entry at all times. The Little River Rail Trail cycleway will cross the access road on a safe speed platform, a safe distance from the underpass.
