Open for feedback
Barnett Park is a well loved park, particularly in summer and we're planning to make some improvements. Click on the tabs below to see what we are proposing for the play space renewal and tree planting plan.
Play space renewal
To keep the fun going safely, we are renewing some of the play equipment at Barnett Park with exciting new equipment. We are planning to replace the older play equipment and keep several pieces of newer equipment as they still have lots of life left in them.
Earlier in 2025, we asked a range of students at Redcliffs School what they would like to see in the play space.
Based on their feedback, we have developed a plan which includes:
- A Gaga pit
- Viking swing
- Musical see saw
- An embankment stainless steel slide
- A nature play area with balancing logs and stepping poles
- Potentially two tree mounted swings (subject to arborists approval)
We are also proposing to put in a picnic table with a shade sail over top next to the play space and a new path from Main Road into the carpark.
We will retain the carousel, spinner, rocker, cradle swing and curved challenge course.
New pathway
We are proposing to build a path along the west side of the driveway and put in a raised crossing at the top of the driveway to help users cross into the car park and access the childcare centre. The path will continue along the west side of the car park to and along the edge of the sports fields to connect to the walking tracks at the back of the park. Check out the plan here.
Due to budget constraints we are proposing to build the path in two parts.
We can build the first section of the path, up to the entry of the car park now. We will be able to build the rest of the path, along the sports fields when funding is available in 3-5 years time.
Budget
This draft plan groups the following four funded projects for the park:
- Urban Forest Planting;
- Partial Playground Renewal ;
- Recreational and sporting development projects and
- Walkway Connections (primarily the main path linking Main Road to the track to Cave Loop Track via the sports fields)
The budget for the play space renewal is $150,000 plus $95,000 for the development of new features. The new features include, the gaga pit, picnic table and shade sail and new pathway up to the carpark.
Tree planting plan
The proposed tree planting and landscaping plan for the sports field area supports the Main Road Master Plan and takes into account the community-led landscaping plan from 2017.
