Plans approved

Consultation on St Peter's School crossing improvements has now closed. People were able to provide feedback from 3 July - 2 August 2024. During this time, we heard from 31 individuals and groups. You can read their feedback and the staff recommendation by clicking on the link in the box above.

To find out how this influenced the Community Board decision to approve the the plans without change you can read the meeting minutes - also included in the link above.

We expect construction to start in late 2024 and take approximately two weeks.

What we're planning

We're planning a permanent pedestrian crossing with concrete buildouts and a raised safety platform outside St Peter’s School on Beckenham Street and a speed bump at the intersection of Beckenham and Tennyson Streets to make it safer for tamariki to get to and from school.

In July 2021, a temporary school crossing was installed outside St Peter’s School on Beckenham Street using stick-on bollards and line markings. A survey was undertaken in October 2023 by Council to assess the next steps for the project. At the time, there was general support from the community that a permanent solution was preferred, and that the temporary crossing had been successful in providing a safe crossing facility for the students.
