Templeton Domain is a well loved park and we're planning to make some improvements. Click on the tabs below to see what we are proposing for the play space renewal and tree planting plan.

Play space renewal

Templeton Domain playground has had a good run, but it's time for a refresh! We've talked to tamariki from Templeton Primary School and committee members from Templeton Residents Association to gather ideas. We've taken onboard their ideas to develop the concept plan. We cannot include everything but have done our best to include the requested equipment within our budget.

New equipment we are proposing:

  • Hamster wheel
  • Play tower with two slides
  • Hexagonal swing set, with six swings including one accessible swing
  • Accessible spinning chair
  • Balancing logs and stepping poles

As part of this renewal, we want to make the playground more accessible so everyone can have fun. We are planning to add a ramp up to the playground, connecting to a firmer surface which can be wheeled on. The ramp will provide users access to the inclusive spinning chair and accessible swing.

To increase the amount of shade we are planning to plant a tree near the balancing logs and install a shade umbrella over the picnic bench next to the skate park.

Top requests from the tamariki of Templeton Primary School were:

  • A tower slide and rock wall
  • An octagonal swing
  • Ninja parkour
  • Hamster wheel

We are planning to remove the swing set, two slides and see-saw and replace them with exciting new equipment. The playground structure for younger children still has a few years of life left in it, so we are keeping it for now. Once it is no longer safe for play, we will remove it and it will not be replace.

Templeton Playground is classed as a community playground, which means it is a key play space people in the community travel to! So, we have a budget of $265,000 to renew the space. We have had a generous donation from the Templeton Residents Association which means we are able to add an extra piece of equipment.

Examples of trees we're planting

All trees are planted at their early stages in the winter months, varying from heights of 15cm to 150cm. We expect trees to take approximately 30 years to reach maturity.
