Upper Riccarton Memorial Park proposal

17 October 2024

The Upper Riccarton War Memorial Library was built in 1919 to commemorate local residents who served in World War 1. The library was demolished earlier this year due to earthquake risks.

The Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board has agreed to develop the space at 372 Riccarton Road into a small memorial park. The proposed park will acknowledge the library's legacy by maintaining aspects of the old library, including the front facade of the building, signage, foundation stone and book return holder. It will also feature an uplifting mural, seating areas and plants.

Consultation is open from 17 October 2024 to 3 November 2024.
