Plans approved

Consultation on Waltham School crossing improvements has now closed. People were able to provide feedback from 1 July to 15 July 2024. During this time, we heard from 10 individuals and groups. You can read their feedback by clicking on the link in the box above.

To find out how this influenced the Community Board decision to approve the plans you can read the minutes - also included in the link above.

We expect construction to start in late 2024 and take approximately two weeks.

To make it safer for tamariki to get to and from Waltham School, we're upgrading the existing zebra crossing on Waltham Road, and creating a crossing on the existing raised safety platform on Hastings Street East, at the intersection with Cecil Place. Both crossing points will have improved visibility and will reinforce the 30km/h speed limit.

What we're planning on Waltham Road

The existing zebra crossing on Waltham Road will get a raised platform, new road markings to highlight the crossing and cycle lanes. No stopping lines either side of the crossing will improve visibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

What we're planning on Hastings Street East

On Hastings Street East we’re planning to install a safer crossing point, away from the Sydenham Community Preschool driveway. We're also planning a speed hump at the Hastings Street East and Vienna Street intersection to reinforce the 30km/h speed limit.
